Welcome! Living solo? You’re in the right place.

Hello and welcome to Solo Beautiful! I’m Zoe. This is the first of what I hope to be many blogs. This blog will be about many things, all centered around living a solo & beautiful life, both can be true at the same time. I’ve been solo for decades so I know a little bit about this topic. I’m a generation X, female, employed full time in I.T. and have no children or siblings or life partner. My elderly mother is still here and I’m grateful for this. I own a home. I’m artistic. I enjoy writing, food (eating and cooking) music, comedy, dancing, live bands, gardening, traveling, painting, cleaning, fixing things, a good bargain and living solo. This covers most of it.

This blog will be part diary (loosely), part inspiration, part problem-solving, and part recommendations. All grounded in my personal experiences and philosophies about this life.. My goals include helping others on their solo journeys, at any point. Maybe you are newly divorced and living alone for the first time. Maybe you are recently widowed. Maybe you have been living solo for a long time. Maybe you simply chose this lifestyle as I have done after trying other things that didn’t work for you. Perhaps I can help you in some way. I’ve experienced many things as a solo individual and I believe I can help those that are in a similar situation as me. I would have loved a resource like me and all the things I am planning on sharing with you.

This blog is also part of a larger ecosystem I am building. I am learning as I go. I learned how to buy a domain, host it, and build this website, all without paying for professional help. It’s amazing how much information is out there. I never thought I’d be able to do all of this by myself, but I did and I plan on doing much more. You will be amazed at all of the things you will be able to accomplish on your solo journey. I will be right there with you. The ultimate goal for me is to leave my full time job and pursue this journey full-time. I’ve been working for others since I was 18 and I am (and have been) ready for something else. This is how I am starting.

So what brings you here? How did you find me? The thing about being a solo woman in her 50s (or any age really) is that somehow people think you’ve lost out on something. The fact of the matter is, it’s intentional and not an accident. If you had asked me in my 20s if I wanted to be married and have kids, I would have said yes. I assumed it would happen, but it did not. I’m okay with this. There was at least one opportunity, but it wasn’t right. I have no regrets about not pursuing it. I’ve seen too many unhappy marriages and divorces and too many financial struggles. I love that I have the freedom and finances to do (mostly) whatever it is I want to do without the burden of getting someone else’s permission or approval first. It’s the only way I know how to live and it’s pretty glorious. If you are new to this, get ready for a fun ride. Is it always easy? Of course not. Just like anything else worth doing. Based on what I’ve seen in my life, I have a lot more moments of peace than those non-solo folks. There’s no price on tranquility; it is priceless. When the world is too much, I love knowing that I can retreat to my safe and beautiful space. It’s all mine and I love it.

If any of this sounds familiar, stick around. I’ll be sharing what I find, what I fix, how I work through problems, where I go, and what makes this life genuinely beautiful — one post at a time. You can also find me on Pinterest. And check back here whenever you feel like it. I post when I have something worth saying.
