If you’re looking for an honest Wyze Cam v4 review, you’re in the right place. When you live alone, home security isn’t just a nice-to-have. It’s peace of mind. It’s being able to leave for work, a weekend trip, or even just a long day out and not spend the whole time wondering what’s happening at your house.
I’ve been using Wyze cameras for about eight years. I started with an older model when someone recommended them to me. The price was right, and the more expensive alternatives didn’t seem worth it for what I needed. I’ve since upgraded to the Wyze Cam v4, and I still trust this brand completely.
Here’s my honest take.
The moment that proved these cameras were worth it
I was asleep when my phone buzzed with an alert. I picked it up, opened the app, and saw a person running across my front lawn.
It was early morning. Police were in my yard.
I got dressed and came downstairs. By the time I got outside, officers were already questioning the individual, a teenager running from police after a neighbor reported someone trying to break into cars on our street.
Scary to wake up to? Absolutely. Especially when you live alone.
But here’s the thing: my camera caught it. I had the alert before I even knew what was happening. I could see my property from my phone before I ever opened my door. For a solo homeowner, that’s not a small thing. That’s exactly why these cameras are on my house.

How I use my Wyze cameras
I have Wyze Cam v4 cameras at multiple locations around my house, front, back, and sides. Full coverage. When I pull up the app, I can see everything happening on my property in real time, from anywhere.

Here’s what I actually use them for day to day:
Checking in remotely. Whether I’m at work or traveling, I can open the app and see exactly what’s going on at home. That matters a lot when you’re the only one there.
Two-way audio. You can speak through your Wyze cam V4 via your phone app (comes through the camera’s speaker). I actually used this to speak to a police officer who knocked on my door when I wasn’t home. He was asking whether anyone in the area had footage from an incident across the street. I was able to respond to him in real time from wherever I was. For a solo homeowner, this feature is genuinely useful whether you’re answering the door remotely or just making your home feel occupied when it isn’t.
The Wyze Video Doorbell Cam. I also have the Wyze doorbell cam, and it works seamlessly with the rest of my setup. I can see who’s at the door before I answer, or before I decide not to. That alone is worth it.

Playback. You can review recorded footage on the Wyze Cam v4, but you’ll need an SD card in each camera to do it. I have them in mine and I’d strongly recommend it. You don’t realize how much you want that footage until you need it.
Timelapse. The Wyze Cam v4 also does timelapse video, which I didn’t expect to use much but have loved. I’ve captured some really beautiful clips, including the northern lights and a few storms. It’s one of those features that surprises you.
What I don’t love
No review is honest without this part.
The cameras don’t catch everything. Motion detection has limits, and there have been times I’ve reviewed footage and noticed something was missed. It’s not a dealbreaker, but it’s worth knowing going in.
And as I mentioned, playback requires an SD card. The camera works without one, but you won’t have any recorded footage to go back to. Buy the SD card at the same time you buy the camera.
My Wyze Cam v4 Review Verdict
I’ve used Wyze for eight years and I’m not switching. For the price, the reliability, and the features, nothing else I’ve found comes close.

The bottom line
Living alone means being your own first line of defense. Wyze cameras don’t replace that, but they make it a whole lot easier. I can leave my house, check my phone, and know exactly what’s happening at home. That peace of mind is worth every penny.
