Solo kitchen counter with hydroponic grower, kettle, cutting board and knives

When you cook and live for one, your kitchen tools need to earn their place. I’m not interested in gadgets that sound good on paper and collect dust in a cabinet. Everything on this page lives in my kitchen because it actually works — and a lot of my choices come down to one more thing: I want what touches my food and water to be as clean and non-toxic as possible. That’s not a trend for me. It’s just how I’ve lived for a long time.

Appliances

Breville Smart Oven

My most-used appliance, full stop. I reach for this every single day. It toasts, bakes, roasts, and broils — and for one person it heats up in a fraction of the time a full oven takes. No preheating a giant oven for one piece of salmon. It lives on my counter permanently and has earned every inch of that space.

Suncoze Hydroponic Countertop Grower

Fresh herbs and small vegetables year-round, right on my counter. For a solo cook, this is exactly the right scale — you harvest what you need and nothing wilts in the back of the fridge before you get to it. No garden required.

Cosori Electric Kettle — No Plastic Water Contact

This is the detail that sold me: no plastic comes into contact with the water. Plastic leaches — especially with heat — and I’m not interested in that going into my tea or coffee. The Cosori is 1.7L, heats fast, and the all-black design looks sharp on the counter. For one person it’s the right size and it pulls double duty for coffee, tea, oatmeal, and anything else that needs hot water fast.

Baratza Sette 270 Conical Burr Coffee Grinder

When you’re only making coffee for yourself, you might as well make it exactly right. Conical burr means consistent grounds, which means a consistently better cup every single time. It’s an investment — and worth every penny for a solo coffee drinker who actually cares what’s in their mug.

Knives & Prep

Pampered Chef Knife Block

A complete set that covers every cutting task without taking over your drawer. Well-balanced, easy to maintain, and built to last. If you’re still working with a random collection of dull knives you’ve accumulated over the years, this is the upgrade worth making.

Pampered Chef Chef’s Color Coated Kitchen Knife (#1516)

This is my everyday knife — the one I reach for first. The color coating gives you a secure grip and makes it easy to grab the right one at a glance. It handles daily chopping, slicing, and prep without complaint.

CUTCO Model 1735 Vegetable Knife

CUTCO has a reputation for a reason. The 7.7″ straight edge blade makes clean cuts through vegetables without tearing, and the classic handle is comfortable for repetitive prep. You notice the difference with a knife like this immediately — and you won’t go back.

Pampered Chef Multi Blade Sharpener (#1135)

A sharp knife is a safe knife — and this sharpener keeps the whole Pampered Chef collection in good shape. Multi-blade means it works across different blade types, and if you’re already invested in Pampered Chef knives, this is the natural companion piece. Available via my Benable list.

Pampered Chef Manual Food Chopper

No electricity, no cleanup nightmare, no giant food processor to drag out for one clove of garlic. This manual chopper handles onions, garlic, nuts, fruits, and vegetables with a few pulls — and goes straight in the dishwasher when you’re done. For solo cooking where you’re rarely prepping in bulk, this is exactly the right tool. Small, efficient, and earns its drawer space every time.

Cutting Board

SNOWCLAD Dual-Sided Stainless Steel Cutting Board

Non-toxic and built to eliminate cross-contamination — one side for meat, one side for vegetables and fruit. The stainless steel and wheat straw construction is dishwasher safe and completely flat. For a solo cook who wants a clean, no-compromise prep surface, this is it. No plastic, no wood that harbors bacteria, no second-guessing.
